Internship
Profiles:
Edward C. Reybitz
III
 Edward
C. Reybitz III is a junior studying Agribusiness Management at
The Pennsylvania State University. Prior to the internship, he
had experience working as a research assistant in the Agricultural
Economics Department formulating enterprise budgets. Since he
had no farming experience, Edward was interested in learning
more about agricultural systems. “I want to learn as much
as possible about farming systems.” His career goals are
to work for an agricultural firm in the area of resource management
and/or marketing.
Edward gained all of
the farming knowledge that he expected at Cedar Meadow Farm. “ I
wanted a more balanced view of Agricultural Business, and this
internship gave me a
firsthand look at the production
supply aspects of food business. Before this, I had not insight
into food production and how complicated it could be, especially
at the farm level. ….I learned about many management practices
ranging from marketing to weed and pest control. Overall it was
a great experience and it helped me greatly to expand my knowledge
about agricultural business.”
He conducted research
comparing tomatoes that are grown in a high tunnel and in the
field, and
the ways that Steve Groff and
his
father market their fresh market tomatoes. In collaboration
with Nicholas Willis, Edward also collected the pollinating insects
and major weeds in the no-till pumpkins produced on a rye-mulch.
They also helped Dr. Ray Weil of the University of Maryland
measure
soil moisture in field corn after brassica cover-crops.
